Cons

  • Numerous In-App Purchases

Real Racing 3 is a ported version of the game that was originally created for iOS, but this version is meant for the Android platform. Unfortunately, it requires the latest Android device to match the same aesthetic as the iOS version, and the game constantly harasses the player with in-app purchases.

While there are certainly some downsides to this game, the actual gameplay itself is fairly well done. It has a polished feel, and it uses actual real-world tracks, cars, and other items that can be used to improve the playability of the game. Upgrades are also possible to keep the player coming back.

This game requires a connection to the internet to play since each race puts the player head-to-head with other players from around the world. By connecting the app to Facebook, players can find friends who play the game and challenge them to a race. With multiple modes like elimination, cup, and head-to-head, there is little chance of running out of content.

The controls for the game are completely customizable, and by default they require tilting the device for the main controls. Those that prefer the touchscreen controls can opt for a fully digital steering system that replaces the tilt-based controls.

It doesn't take long for the player to jump in and start racing. When you first start playing, you'll be given the opportunity to purchase a vehicle that can compete in different race styles. As you complete races, earn points, and acquire money, you can upgrade and service the vehicle to keep it in top working order. The game clearly focuses on the multiplayer element, so these upgrades can become quite vital.

Real Racing 3 has the potential to be a gorgeous game if it is played on a new piece of supported hardware. Older mobile Android platforms that technically support the game will make the graphics look terrible, however. Without optimal hardware, the game looks barren and empty.

The reduced graphics for older pieces of hardware is hardly the most annoying aspect of this game. Much like other mobile games, this app earns revenue by offering premium transactions that can be bought with real-world currency, but the game never lets up with its incessant offers and pop-ups. Most players will have plenty of fun at the earlier stages of the game without considering a premium purchase, but as the game advances, it becomes harder to avoid those purchases without having to wait to play.

Those who find themselves easily swayed to buy in-app purchases should be wary of this game since it has a perfect balance of free content that draws in the player and small, seemingly insignificant micro transactions that will surely add up over time. The trick is to prevent yourself from making that first purchase, but if you make the first purchase, others will almost certainly be made in the future.

Real Racing 3 is a racing game for Android, iOS, and Blackberry devices.

The biggest advantage to this racing game is that the controls are very simple and there ar a wide selection of vehicles and challenging courses. This helps to keep you entertained for many hours as you continually try to beat your own high scores.

Unfortunately, some of the later game cars are extremely difficult to grind out with leveling alone. The game is loaded with microtransactions that can prove to be very distracting from the overall gameplay. However, Real Racing 3 is still worth trying out if you are a fan of the racing genre.
